You could try adding another User to your computer, and installing X only for that user. You could use a spare hard drive, and setup a dedicated Windows installation on it, and just swap drives over I do that with Windows and Linux - it's more sterile than dual boot. Heck, if you were near me in the UK, I could even give you a spare broken laptop no screen that you could use with a monitor!
