IE9 is the highest version of IE available on Windows Vista, so if you want a higher version you would need to upgrade your Windows version. Windows 8 and 8. Yes No. If you can't upgrade Windows you will have to use other browsers. The website developers are not to blame. It is companies like Microsoft who own and operate most of the internet system around the world. They make changes to the internet and of course, websites have to upgrade their servers also. Ever since the change to the newer HTML5, things have started going downhill for those with older computer and 4 to 5 year old Windows OS's.
And of course there have been other upgrades and changes too. At least half of the websites I normally visit do not function correctly with IE9. And some are worse than others. So it is more than just a few sites affected as you said. And I notice that the number of sites affected by this change, is increasing more and more as time goes by.
A few months ago, it was just a few sites. Now it is a lot more. By the end of the year, it will be most or all of the sites. The host server for my own personal website has changed and now IE9 is no longer compatible with them. There is no excuse for this.
The reason MS did this is the same reason that they do everything else they do that hurts people. But of course MS has more at stake than the other browsers do. MS has new versions of Windows that they need to sell and milk us for our hard earned money. One good way to insure new Windows sales is to make sure IE users can not stay with the older version. My computer is only 5 years old. I can not afford to upgrade to a new Windows OS every 5 years just because MS is a greedy company that has become far too big and no longer have to care about people.
The truth is, I do not like Google Chrome or Firefox very much. I have to give up features that IE offers, in order to use the other browsers. I would really rather stick with IE. But this latest greedy move by MS will force me to settle for a browser I do not like as well.
And then what happens down the road when MS decides to upgrade the internet to the point where us Vista users can no longer use any browser that works right? MS just keeps doing this to us every few years and they don't seem to give a flip about who they hurt along the way. I guess us poorer folk on fixed incomes are not important to them as those who can afford every new gimmick they come up with to make even more cash.
The saddest part is that none of us little people can do anything about it. MS makes so much money that they don't have to listen to their customers anymore, and they can do pretty much anything they wish and get away with it. People used to matter to big businesses. But not anymore.
Now they don't have to care. Some websites that report that they do not work with IE9, do actually mostly still work- Yahoo Mail for one. Not urgent, yet, but mainstream support security and other updates for Vista ends in You should be thinking about replacing Vista in the next couple of years.
